Intellectual Property
It is believed Next 2 technology that allows social media user to set location and signal to others based on location and use of two sets of keywords is patentable. The company plans to exploit its intellectual property by offering it to others (through API) or direct through Next 2 global brand.
Competition
Location services is hugely competitive marketplace with social media titans Facebook and Twitter developing and releasing geolocation features there is a plethora of start-ups such as popular Foursquare and Gowilla as well as boutiques such as SimpleGEO and others all vying for piece of market. Twitter or Facebook could offer same or similar service in USA or foreign markets and cripple company’s own consumer offering.
Next 2 also faces significant hurdles on delivering on its promise. Customer adoption of geolocation, user-generated content and privacy controls may be insurmountable.
