Next2.us provides place-based, topic-driven social network by SMS in the United States and Kenya. The solution allows users to connect together around place and common topics of interests. Text messages are automatically exchanged based on user's location, overlay of sharing circle between users and message keywords. Please see SMS Instructions Page (above) to register your mobile phone and start your Next2.us account.

    SMS Instructions and Commands

    To start using Next2.us SMS and register your mobile phone and start your account:

    • You first need to register your mobile phone number with the Next2.us
    • In USA, text "next2 reg name location" to 95495 (substitute name you want to use and your location).
    • In Kenya, text "reg name location" to 5557 (substitute name you want to use and your location).
    Quick Reference Guide to Next2.us SMS commands
    1. reg = registers your mobile number for sending and receiving text messages with other users.
    2. loc = to change your location.
    3. srad = to change the size of your sharing circle around your location (default is 10 miles)
    4. addp = to post public message, must start with either have want or discuss and works with topic term that follows.  If match is found then messages exchanged between users.  Public messages are also posted to your Next2.is/account_name web page.
    5. addpp = to post private message.  Works same as addp but message is not posted to Next2.us/account_name web page.
    6. 4 = to direct message another user using the user's account name (ex 4 brip + message)
    7. unreg = to unregister your phone and delete your account and data.

    Kenya.  The cost to send text message is KSH 5.  There is no cost to receive text messages.

    Command

    To start update and stop your account.

    reg

    To register your mobile phone number and start you account.

    1. Text the word reg
    2. Followed by the name you want for your account
    3. Followed by the location where you want to locate your account

    Example: "reg brip leesburg va"

    Next2.us will reply with a text message to your mobile phone.

    Welcome to next2us Your username: X and password: Y to stop text unreg

    The reply text message  

    1. Confirms you account name.
    2. Provides a password for logging into you account at http://m.next2.us
    3. Provide instructions on how to unregistered your mobile phone using the "unreg" command

    Your account name works as a web address at http://m.next2.us/account_name

     

    loc

    To change your location text loc followed by a new address. You address should

    1. Street City State (or Province)
    2. Please follow the order shown without commas.
    3. You may text just City State or just State

    Next2.us checks the address provided against Google Map and sends a reply.

    Your location change to 

    If the address is not recoginized, Next2us will send a reply.

    Sorry not able to recognize your location.

    You can must then resend the loc command to change your location

    Example "loc Leesburg VA"

     

    srad

    To change the size of your sharing circle around your location text srad followed by a number.

    Example "srad 100" would increase your sharing circle to 100 miles around your location.

    Next2.us will reply

    Your radius has been changed to X mile

    Example srad 100

    When you start your account a sharing circle of 10 miles is made around your location

     

    unreg

    To unregister your mobile phone and delete your account text "unreg"

    Example "unreg"

    Next2.us will reply:

    Your mobile is unregistered successfully.

     

    Command

    To post and exchange public and private messages

    addp

    To post a public message that will appear at your Next2.us web page and match with other public messages text "addp purpose keyword topic + message

    Example "addp have bike for sale. Used, gd condition 100 obo

    Next2.us will reply:

    You have successfully made post (copy of post)

    If you make a mistake Next2.us will reply:

    Your post was unsuccessful, Please start your post with word want have or discuss

     

    addpp

    To post a private message that will NOT appear at your Next2.us web page but WILL match and be exchanged with other private messages use the "addpp" sms command.

    The instructions for posting a private message (addpp) are the same as a public message (addp)

     

    Purpose

    A purpose keyword must follow the addp and addpp command.  The Next2.us purpose keywords are

    1. want
    2. have
    3. discuss

    Topic

    When using the addp and addpp command a topic keyword (or phrase) must follow the purpose keyword.

    1. The word that follows the purpose keyword is the topic keyword (ex addp want bike)
    2. A topic keyword can be any word or phrase (no spaces)

     

    Direct Messaging -- Send a text message to any other Next2.Us user by using the number 4 (followed by a space) and the user’s Next2.Us user name. 

    SMS Command

    To send a direct text message to another user.

    To send a direct text to another Next2.us user text "4 account_name + your message" 

    Example "4 brip hi brian really enjoying next2.us, thanks"

    Insert the user's Next2.us account name and include you message.  The message will be delivered to the user's mobile phone as a new incoming text message.  The recipient may reply using the 4 command and your Next2.us account name.  Next2.us never reveals your mobile phone number to other users.

     

    Extras – Share your location and public messages at your Next2.Us homepage (http://m.next2.us/user_name).  If someone sends you a message from your Next2.Us page it will be sent as a text message to your mobile phone.  You can reply using text messaging or login to your Next2.us account using a mobile browser or a personal computer connected to the internet.  Your public messages are shown at your Next2.us web pages.   Your private text messages are NOT shown on your Next2.Us web page.  If you change your location or post a new messages they are immediately available at your Next2.us  

    Your Next2.Us account name also works with mobile browsers and PCs connected to the internet at http://m.next2.Us

    Near-time message processing – Public and private messages are processed in “near” time.  Near time is a point in time in the future when all messages posted to Next2.us are processed and exchanged as new text messages from Next2.us to subscribers.  Processing messages in near-time allows us to send messages during off-peak hours.
